How to Set Up a New E-Mail Account in MS Outlook Express

Information You Need to Start

 
Note: In these examples we use generic user names and passwords.
 
Substitute your own name for yourname, your own password for yourpass, and your own domain name for domain.com.
 
Information you will need:
User: yourname@domain.com
Password: your pass
Mail server name: mail.domain.com
 

Open Outlook

 
On the menu bar, click on Tools and select Accounts.
An Internet Accounts window will open.

Click on the Add button. A pop-up menu will appear.  Select Mail from the list.

The Internet Connection Wizard will open.
 
 

Your Name

 
In the Display Name field, type in your full name.
 
Then select Next.
 
 

Internet E-mail Address

 
In the E-mail Address field, enter your e-mail address.
 
Then select Next.
 
 

E-mail Server Names

 

Select POP3 from the drop-down selection box for “My incoming mail server is a”.

In the Incoming Mail (POP3) Server and Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server fields,enter:
mail.domain.com (substitute domain with your domain name)
 
Select Next.
 
 

Internet Mail Logon

 
In the Account Name field, enter your e-mail address.
Example: YourName@domain.com
 
In the Password field, enter your e-mail account password. 
Example: yourpass
 
Put a checkmark in the "Remember Password" box to store your e-mail password.
 
Make sure that "Logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" is not checked.
 
Select Next.
 
 

Internet Accounts Revisited

 

Click Finish and you will return to the Internet Accounts window.  Click on the Properties button (shown with a red arrow below).

 
 

Servers Tab

 
 
Click on the Servers tab.
 
Under the Outgoing Mail Server area, check “My server requires authentication.

Select OK.

Close the Internet Accounts window.

Your mail account is now configured and you will be able to check your mail.
