Help! I'm Having EMail Trouble


Can't Send

  1. Check to make sure you have a connection to the Internet.  (Can you view
  2. Can you view your website? 
    If not, your domain name might have expired.  Check whois information for the domain expiration date.
  3. Close Outlook
    Occasionally, some versions of Outlook have a tendency to “get stuck” while trying to send a message. When this is the case, if you close and re-open the program it will release the “stuck” message.
  4. Check your Outlook Settings.
    Check all your settings.  To view the proper settings for set up go to either hMail or RackMail's Outlook Instruction area:  
  5. Make sure "My Outgoing Sever (SMTP) requires authentication” is checked.

  6. Make sure your Outgoing server (SMTP) port number is 587,  not 25.
    You may need to use an alternate port. In an attempt to control spam, some Internet service providers now block port 25, which means you may need to use port 587.

  7. Restart your computer.
  8. Disable anti-virus programs.
    Norton AntiSpam is an example of a program that will cause this problem, but it's not the only one.
    Disable Email scanning in the software.
    Check your antispam or antivirus program's website for an update or possible workarounds.
  9. Look at Outgoing Server Information.
    Some Internet service providers (ISP) require their subscribers to send mail through the ISP's own outgoing SMTP servers. 

    The Outgoing mail server (SMTP) may have to go to our ISP providers address.  You will have to get this specific address from them.  If you try this option you MUST ALSO go to the Outgoing Server Tab amd choose the radial button Log on using: user name and password for the ISP account.

    Why do they do this?  Our guess is its an effort to make more money by forcing you to upgrade to their business ISP product in order to allow you to use your domain name as the outgoing address. 

    Your recipients will not notice the change if you use your ISP for outgoing mail.  It only impacts the fact that AccuNet can not help with Send issues since your Outlook is no longer using us to send.
